The following information mainly pertains to the Competition/Varsity team.
#1. There will be more emphasis on tumbling abilities. Cheerleading, especially in the Central Bucks school district, is very competitive. Therefore, in order to be considered/make the Competition team all cheerleaders must have or be working towards back handsprings and higher. Spring and summer is a great time to enroll in gymnastics classes!
#2. Everyone must be able to play a part in stunting either as a flyer, base, or back spotter. No one will make the team as a front spotter. Versatility is also helpful. Some girls are able to switch between base and flyer which makes them more valuable as a team member.
#3. If you were on the team last year...more will be expected of you the following year. Were you easy to work with? Did you listen to constructive criticism and make the necessary changes? Did you come to practice on time? work hard? show improvement? If you were on Varsity last year...you are not guaranteed the spot next year. You must work just as hard as the girls who are new or were on JV the previous year and show that you deserve to keep your Varsity spot.
#4. Cheerleading workshops will be offered once a week throughout the spring and summer, as well as the opportunity to attend cheer camp. Attendance is not mandatory, however, all the material that you will need to know for tryouts will be taught. You can get to know the coach(es) and the girls from last year. Sometimes girls get nervous at tryouts and mess up. If you are frequently at the workshops the coach will know what you are capable of. Tryouts will also be held the first week of school so there will not be a lot of time to learn the material if you do not learn it over the summer.
